TMCnet Next Gen Network Solutions Week in Review

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

This week Next Gen Network Solutions leader Global Convergence (News - Alert) Solutions (GCS) saw many of its partners make their splash in their respective spaces.

Early this week, GCS’s partner Dell announced that it has selected Dublin as the site for the company’s first Cloud Research and Development (R&D) Center and its campus in Limerick as home to the first Dell (News - Alert) Solution Center built globally.

Dell is hoping to maximize the benefits of cloud computing and deliver IT flexibility, reduced operational costs, and accelerated time to market, company officials said. It is investing resources in a dedicated facility to make sure this happens, they added.

The center will act as a proof of concept laboratory, helping Dell customers leverage their existing hardware platforms while driving innovation, new development work and thought leadership in the cloud. The center will focus on developing OpenStack based capabilities, Storage-as-a-Service Solutions and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) enabling technology.

Another GCS partner GENBAND, a provider of IP infrastructure and application solutions announced that the acquisition of the Nortel (News - Alert) Carrier VoIP (CVAS) division will significantly advance GENBAND’s network transformation and Internet Protocol (IP) migration portfolio.

The acquisition will help GENBAND become the leading equipment vendor in the global service provider VoIP market.

By taking over Nortel CVAS and integrating its products into its portfolio, GENBAND preserved many years of respected research and development. The company could provide continuity to customers, enabling carrier customers to cost effectively continue growth and delivery of services to global customer bases. Recently, GENBAND began a one-year anniversary celebration of its acquisition of the Nortel Carrier VoIP (CVAS) division.

“The company has come together over the past year to successfully integrate, streamline and cultivate a customer-focused culture, and we are pleased to celebrate this accomplishment today,” said Charlie Vogt (News - Alert), chief executive officer of GENBAND, in a statement.

Over the past five years, GENBAND achieved 80 percent compound annual growth. The company has more than 3,000 full-time employees and contractors serve more than 600 customers, including 80 of the world’s top 100 network operators.

One more GCS partner also hit the news this week as colocation provider Telex announced that Voxel, a provider of hybrid cloud hosting and managed services, has joined the Telx cloudXchange.

The company selected Telx’s secure, carrier-neutral Cloud Connection Center at 111 8th Ave. in New York to expand its international service delivery footprint. The company also expects to maintain high levels of network uptime and availability.

“By integrating into the Telx Cloud Connection Center, we can quickly and cost-effectively offer onramp connections in additional markets, increase connectivity performance and bring our cloud services closer to the end-user networks for the best Quality of Experience available,” said Stephen Callahan, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Voxel.

With Telx cloudXchange community and Cloud Connection Centers, cloud service providers such as Voxel can seamlessly connect their infrastructures to Enterprise end users, leveraging Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure IaaS and application uptime.
